If you're like me, you hate the fact that Instagram does not allow for uploading of native 2:3 vertical photographs. This is annoying because all full-frame cameras when in vertical / portrait orientation, capture the image in a 2:3 ratio. There are a lot of ways to get around this, including the app called Whitagram, which you can use to resize your photos on your phone; however, if you use sites like Hootsuite, Buffer, or Later to upload your photos to Instagram, this does not help a whole lot. As such, I created a Photoshop action to enable batch reformatting of your images to comply with the 4:5 aspect ratio.

What this action does is open your photo(s) via a batch command (or one at a time using the action individually), open a new document in the correct size / aspect ratio, resize your photo to fit that new document, covert your photo to a blurred version of itself, copy your photo and resize it onto that new document, and finally save it as a new photo.
Instructions for use:
1. Download the .atn file from my Dropbox.
2. Save the .atn file to the proper location:
- (Windows) C:\Users\
\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Adobe
Photoshop\Adobe Photoshop Settings - (macOS) Users/
/Library/Preferences/Adobe Photoshop Settings
3. Ensure your vertical photos are saved from Lightroom or your favorite editing program to 2200px or more on the long end.
4. Place all of these files in the same folder.
5. Launch Photoshop and choose Window > Actions.
6. Choose Load Actions from the Actions panel flyout menu. Select the *.atn file you want to import.
7. To batch modify your vertical photos in the folder you put them in, you'll need to automate the batch.
8. In Photoshop, choose File > Automate > Batch.
9. Change the folder source, and choose a new folder as the destination (I created a new folder inside the same folder called "resized."
10. Check the box "Override Action "Save As" Commands.
11. Hit "OK."
Voila.
