Death Valley National Park
The absolute depth and scale of the landscape found within Death Valley National Park creates one of the most pleasurable experiences I've had as a landscape photographer in quite some time. My goal as a photographer over the past 5 years has been to occupy an emotional flow state of joy and curiosity with the hopes that it yields photographs that are unique, personally-expressive, and visually interesting. Sometimes I am successful and other things I am not - and this is totally acceptable to me. This particular scene was something I found while wandering deep into the badlands of Death Valley not too far from a very iconic location that is often frequented and where copy-cat images are manufactured on a daily basis. While that format of creating images may be appealing for some, I have found much more joy personally in just setting aside all expectation and enjoying what I may find on my journey. This image is the result of that type of mindset - I found a lot of pleasure in finding and photographing these colorful ribbed rock formations. Hopefully you don't mind the playful title of the image.
